Memorial Day, Monday May 29, 2006

Monday we'll mourn, Memorialize, the dead

from warfare. There's a lot of them. Most of

our military dead died very young. That's why

all Americans (men only?) are required to

register when very young. Hundreds of

thousands died in the air over Europe. The

people of Berlin during daylight bombing raids

were aghast that our planes flew so low

over their cities. The British planes flew

at night, up high. **The nature of the US

bombing over Europe may in many instances

have been virtual suicide missions. This fact

is hinted at in the Zanuck, 20th Century Fox,

1949 movie Twelve O'Clock High.

** That was the case over Dresden; I don't know much about British bomb patterns over Berlin.  The subject is enormously complicated: weather, need for surprise, changes in schedules, politics, how to prepare for the inevitable peace.

In current warfare our bombing hasn't had

the same dramatic effects achieved during

WW2.  To succeeed we may have to invent

our own style of terrorism. What defeats

most bother our enemies?  Making fun a la

Satanic Verses  seemed to have worked

quite well. America made a petty, quibbling

mistake in suppressing the news that an

American Muslim woman, a Ph.D Psychiatrist,

was shown on Al Jazera declaring that

terrorists were "Psychotic." Instead of

dropping bombs wemust instead drop

leaflets so insulting beards will get ripped

off in rage.

Well, I'm off the write my letter to the CIA,

the Pentagon, all those chagrined, retired

American Generals who are pissed at our

lack of more rapid progress, and others,

outlining how to unhinge our enemies.

it is true that many, who travel to war,are mere children, over the ages children have fought, won and died in war, they have been enslaved and tortured, used more recently as human bombs in the act of terrorism,we are destroying our own futures in this way,the children are our future, and we should respect them for that, young men in battle are classed as expendable, and even though our govenment in britain would fiercely deny it,we too have lost many good young men to a pointless war for power,or another oil field, whichever, pointless is the word that springs to mind.We need a good old civil war against our governments, and get rid of them,we are told we need them to be civilised, but we dont,we have our own brains, why do we need them to tell us what to do?xxzoexx

Hurts the head just to think about
the ages of the dead doesn't it? What
an incalculable loss. Memorial Day
ceremonies don't bring back even one life,
but just becoming conscious of the
enormous toll is at least a start. What
has galled the retired military Generals here
is the lack of suitable armament and weapons.
Quite shocking.

Thanks Zoe.

...the reason why our young men and women die in wars is that they are not educated enough to fight in a war.
Nor are they old enough to make any good calculating risks to safe them selves or others in dangerous moments.
Those who are old enough to truly think are out ranked by the young ones who only receive classes to gain rank but not actual duty experiences.
The soldiers leave for active duty to fight for our freedom and the some stay behind and gain ranks, so when the experienced soldier returns they will be out ranked by those who never went to active duty beyond their home base.
Now tell me why the young ones can die and the older ones do not?

Gee whiz Bea, having been in the US Army
I can believe this, but it's sure worrisome. I
was in the Medical Service Corp
with specialty # 1835 (Surgical Tech.) I can
imagine what you say can be true. Being an
effective infantryman, for example, must require a certain cunning that one either has or doesn't have.
If you live long enough you pick it up I guess.
